Abstract: Sample (100 µL) was merged with 0.01 M KSCN solution and 0.4 mM 5-Br-PADAP ethanolic solution in 1.2 M H2SO4 (both at 0.8 mL min-1). After reaction the red-violet triatomic ion associate formed was measured at 550 nm. Beer's law was obeyed from 2 to 20 µM-IO-3. The method was applied to the analysis of kelp. The detection limit was 0.6 µM and recovery was >97%. Sample throughput was 84 h-1; BrO3- and IO4- interfered.

Abstract: Portions of standard iodide (I) solution were injected into a flow injection analyzer. (schematic shown) and treated with a mixture of 1% bromine and 2% H3PO4 in water in a reaction coil (5 cm x 0.7 mm i.d.). The mixed solution was treated with aqueous 6% sulfosalicylic acid in a second coil (94 cm x 0.7 mm i.d.) and the absorbance of the colored product formed was measured at 580 nm. The calibration graph was linear up to 1 mg/l I. The RSD was 3.3%. Sampling frequency was 80 runs per h. There was little interference. The method was applied to the analysis of iodine-containing tablets, table salt, animal feed and kelp, with recovery of 90-97.5%.

Abstract: A glass gravity separator for continuous liq.-liq. extraction system was developed and used for the determination of trace iodide ion by online extraction-spectrophotometry. The separator provides several advantages over the existing ones reported in the literatures. The flow ratio of aqueous mobile phase to organic mobile phase ( is 30. The linear range for I- is 0-3.000 mg/L with detection limit of 70 µg/L. A precision of 2.2% relative standard deviation (1 mg/L of I-, .eta.=7) and a sample throughput of 25/h were obtained. The method was applied to the determination of I- in kelp with standard addition recovery of 98%.
