Abstract: Sample solution (2.7 ml, containing ~e;150 g/l of Zn) was injected into a carrier stream of 0.5 M HCl, and the absorbance was measured at 810 nm in a 2 cm pathlength flow cell. Injection of a large sample volume minimized dispersion of the sample zone and consequently also interference from the change in RI at the interface between the sample zone and the carrier solution. Calibration was effected with matrix-matched standards. The detection limit was 3 mg/l of Cu and the RSD (n = 104) at 0.5 g/l was 5%. When the system was automated by use of a PC, 10 samples could be analyzed per h.
