Abstract: A powdered sample (5 g) of bitter apricot seed was placed in a color comparison tube, then mixed and diluted to 50 mL with water. The tube was covered with a cover and heated at 37°C for 2 h on a water bath. A 50 mL portion of the supernatant solution was mixed with 10 mL of 1 mM NaOH and diluted with water to 100 mL. A 50 µL portion of the sample solution was injected into the carrier stream of NaOH of pH 10 (6 ml/min) and reacted on a CuS column to form Cu(CN)43-, which was determined by AAS at 324.7 nm. The calibration graph was linear from 1-100 µg/ml of cyanide and the RSD (n = 10) were 3%. Recoveries of amygdalin added to two different samples were 48% and 104%. Tolerance levels are given for eight anions.
