"Determination Of Naphthols By Flow Injection Chemiluminescence"
Anal. Chim. Acta 1987 Volume 202, Issue 1 Pages 247-250
S. A. Al-Tamrah, Alan Townshend

Abstract: The sample (20 µL) is injected into a 1 mM KMnO4 carrier stream (pH 1.5; 1.8 mL min-1) and the stream is subsequently mixed with 1 mM Rhodamine B (C. I. Basic Violet 10; 1.8 mL min-1) before measurement of chemiluminescence with use of the flow cell and detector system described previously (cf. Alwarthan and Townshend, Ibid., 1986, 185, 329). Calibration graphs are rectilinear for up to 40 µM-1-naphthol, 50 µM-4-amino-3-hydroxynaphthalene-1-sulfonic acid, 80 µM-2-naphthol, 100 µM-1-amino-2-naphthol hydrochloride and 120 µM-6-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulfonic acid. For 50 µM-2-naphthol the coefficient of variation was 0.5% (n = 13). The limit of detection was 0.5 µM.

"Solid Phase Preconcentration-Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometric Determination Of Carbaryl And 1-naphthol"
Anal. Chim. Acta 1995 Volume 314, Issue 3 Pages 203-212
Yasmina Daghbouche, Salvador Garrigues and Miguel de la Guardia

Abstract: An analytical procedure has been developed for the simultaneous determination of carbaryl and 1-naphthol in water samples by means of in-field sampling and pre-concentration on C18 solid phase cartridges which, after drying are eluted on-line with a carrier flow of chloroform; carbaryl and 1-naphthol are determined by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry. Carbaryl is determined directly from the peak area of the flow injection absorbance versus time recordings, measured at 1741 cm-1 with a baseline correction established at 1875 cm-1. For 1-naphthol the peak area values were measured from the first order derivative peak, obtained between the peak at 1280 cm-1 and the valley at 1272 cm-1 which correspond to the derivative spectrum of the absorbance band at 1276 cm-1. Measurements carried out by batch elution of the pre-concentrated solutions provided detection limits of 0.36 mg 1-1 for carbaryl and 1.6 mg 1-1 for 1-naphthol for a sample volume of 100 ml.

"Simultaneous Determination Of Organic Isomers In Mixtures By Flow Injection Analysis With A Diode Array Photodetector"
Analyst 1987 Volume 112, Issue 4 Pages 535-538
Baldomero Bermúdez, Fernando Lázaro, María Dolores Luque de Castro and Miguel Valcárcel

Abstract: Particular isomers in mixtures of 1- and 2-naphthol and mixtures of o-, m- and p-cresol were determined by coupling with diazotized 2-aminobenzothiazole in NaOH medium. Flow injection analysis was used with a Hewlett-Packard 8451A diode-array photodetector. A computer program which monitors absorbance data at several wavelengths per injection allows the selection of the wavelengths which give the smallest error in the determination of a particular isomer. Flow injection analysis enhances the difference in chemical behavior of components of mixtures and the detector emphasizes small differences in monitored signals.
