"Flow Injection Determination Of Oxidants With Leuco-thionine Blue"
Analyst 1988 Volume 113, Issue 7 Pages 1057-1060
armen Martinez-Lozano, Tomás Pérez-Ruiz, Virginia Tomás and Encarnación Yagüe

Abstract: Sample solution (85 µL) is injected into the flow injection system and mixed with leuco-thionine blue solution [prepared by irradiation of thionine blue (C. I. Basic Blue 25) in aqueous EDTA] and buffer solution (pH 4.5 to 5.5) in a reaction coil (100 cm). Flow rates of all solution are 0.74 mL min-1. The absorbance of the solution is measured at 670 nm. Results for determination of IO4-, Cr(VI), Fe(CN)63- and V(V) are presented. Limits of determination ranged from 48 to 0.108 µM. The method was applied in the determination of Cr and V in steels, V in petroleum products and Fe(CN)63- in photographic solution, and in the separation of Cr(VI) - Cr(III) mixtures.

"Use Of Activated Alumina As A Column Packing Material For Adsorption Of Oxyanions In Flow Injection Analysis With ICP-AES Detection"
Anal. Proc. 1986 Volume 23, Issue 1 Pages 5-6
I. G. Cook, C. W. McLeod, P. J. Worsfold

Abstract: The cited technique (cf., Cox et al., Anal. Abstr., 1985, 47, 12H67) has been extended to oxy-anions. A preliminary study of the deposition, on activated alumina, and elution (with aqueous 1 M NH3 and 1 M KOH) of AsO43-, borate, CrO42-, MoO42-, PO43-, SeO42- and VO3- (with AES measurements at 193.7, 249.7, 267.7, 202.0, 213.6, 196.0 and 292.4 nm, respectively) is reported. Advantages of alumina over basic polystyrene - divinylbenzene resins as a column material for deposition and elution of oxy-anions in flow injection analysis are discussed.

"Sequential Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometric Detection Of Binary Mixtures Of Chloride-carbonate, Chloride-chromate, And Chloride-oxalate In A Flow System Using Online Precentration Technique"
J. Flow Injection Anal. 1995 Volume 12, Issue 1 Pages 35-53
Esmadi, F.T.;Khasawneh, I.M.;Kharoaf, M.A.;Attiyat, A.S.

Abstract: A method is described for sequential determination of binary containing each time chloride and another oxoanion (carbonate, chromate and oxalate) using flow injection atomic absorption spectrophotometric method (FI-AAS). The method involves precipitation of the mixture of the two anions with silver nitrate in a Tygon tube containing small glass beasd connected to the atomic absorption spectrophotometer, an acid solution is then passed which dissolves the silver oxoanion precipitate in order to determine the oxoanion and then ammonia is passed which dissolves the silver chloride precipitate to determine chloride. The method allows determination of mixtures with different chloride:oxoanion ratios at the µmol L-1 level, and it is found to be precise, simple and fast.

"Flow Injection Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometry. A New Strategy For Ultratrace Analysis"
J. Res. Natl. Bur. Stand. 1988 Volume 93, Issue 3 Pages 462-464
C. W. McLeod, Y. Zhang, I. Cook, and A. Cox, A. R. Date and Y. Y. Cheung

Abstract: Two methods of online trace enrichment by using activated alumina are studied. Chromate, PO43- and SO42- are determined by ICP-AES following enrichment on a column of acidic alumina and elution with aqueous NH3 or KOH. Results for determination of Cr(VI) and Cr(III) (not retained) in a reference water sample are tabulated. Cationic species, e.g., alkaline-earth-metal ions, are pre-concentrated on columns of basic alumina and eluted with 2 M HNO3 in a flow system with a carrier stream of aqueous 0.02 M NH3 and with samples buffered at pH 6 and containing 0.5 M tartaric acid as complexing agent. Results for determination of eight elements in a reference water sample agreed with certified values.

"Flow Injection Iodometric Determination Of Oxidants"
J. Anal. Chem. 1994 Volume 49, Issue 6 Pages 579-582
Gur'ev, I.A.;Zyuzina, L.F.;Lazareva, O.P.

Abstract: The method is based on the oxidation of KI and the reaction of the iodine formed with Na2S2O3. The analyte containing H2O2 was mixed with the reagent comprising a mixture of 1 M KI, 50% H2SO4 and (NH4)2MoO4 catalyst. Portions (50-100 µL) of 0.1 M iodine, the prepared analyte and a 1 mM standard solution were successively injected into a 0.3 ml/min flow of 0.1 M Na2S2O3. The mixture, after passing through a 307 mm long reaction spiral entered a potentiometric cell with Pt indicator electrode and a Ag/AgCl auxiliary electrode. The RSD was ~0.03. A similar procedure was used for the determination of chromate and Fe(III).
